The "Anything Tastes Great In Paradise ......... Almost" Story

It was an ordinary day.  Just got back from Orient Village on the French side of St. Martin with breakfast.  Fresh, warm croissants which are even better than you can imagine.  Get up early to get them before they are sold-out at the Tap 5 store.  The apple-stuffed croissant with a glazing of honey over them and the chocolate crawler which seem to be stuffed with small chocolate chips and what appears to be vanilla custard.  Tasty?  You bet!  Glass of mango or some other exotic fruit drink is all you need to get into the mood for another day in paradise.  While I was at Tap 5 I picked up a few other items we needed at the villa as well as a bag of Holsum hot dog rolls we wanted to use for our evening meal.  Tonight was to be "eat-in" night after traveling to quite a few restaurants over the last two weeks.  We purchased a couple of burger patties, a small package of hot dogs, package of frozen potato wedges, can of applesauce, small can of baked beans and a couple of "Ting" drinks a few days ago and planned to have a cookout on our patio as the sun went down and the lights of Orient Village illuminated the night-time sky off in the distance.  After showers and the news on American TV cable I started the gas grill while Carol grabbed the potato wedges.  Uh Oh!  "Do you realize these potatoes are supposed to be deep-fried?" she asked me.  "You picked them out, remember!" I replied.  OK, they are only frozen potatoes so she popped them in the oven then put the beans on the stove to heat them up.  I turned off the grill for about 15 to 20 minutes to give the potatoes a chance to cook, then got it going again.   Popped the burgers and dogs on the grill and grabbed the plates and silverware for the outside table.   Potatoes were finally finished and the beans and apple sauce and Ting drinks were on the table with the relish and catsup.  Carol grabbed the rolls I had purchased in the morning and brought them to the table.  "Let's eat," I said.  Carol opened the buns to hand me one and she said, "These are covered with mold!!"  "Geez, I just got them," I said.  Not a single roll in the pack was usable.  Grabbed the car keys and hopped in the car for the 5 minute ride to Tap 5.  As I headed down the hill I yelled to Carol to put the warm items back in the oven and I'll be right back.  Clerk remembered me and didn't argue when he opened them and saw how gross they were.  "Maybe on the island green rolls might be tasty, but where I come from, we call them moldy," I said to him.  He grabbed another pack off the shelf and handed them to me.  Knew better then to leave without opening them and yep, moldy!  Last package on the shelf.  "How about a French baguette?" I asked him.  All gone.  So, I picked up a bag of chips and asked if I could trade them for the rolls.  Knew we could use them for lunch at the beach.  Headed back home to have burgers and dogs without the rolls.  No big deal!  We're in paradise and anything tastes great.  Except moldy rolls, of course.  It was another extraordinary day in the life of an ordinary guy.
