The "Monkey Business" Story
It was an ordinary day. We were having a party for a few neighbors and I had to go to Costco for a few supplies. As I approached the store I realized that I needed gas so I headed to the pumps. I pulled in line behind a very unusual VW Bus. Psychedelic paint with big flower decals. Pretty neat. The pumps were on the passenger side of the car which was where my gas cap was located. The driver of the bus was just getting out of the his door. Yep! It was his VW, no doubt about it. Hippy clothes and long flowing hair. Wish I had some of that! He used his card and lifted the pump handle. At this point he saw that his gas cap was on the other side of the bus, right behind the driver's door. He opened the passenger side door, wound down the window slightly, fed the pump through the window and closed the door. He moved to the driver's side, opened the door, wound down the window slightly and put the pump through the window, closing the door. It was at this time that I saw a small hairy hand and arm reach through the window. Now I realized why he had kept the windows up as far as he could. He had a monkey in the car with him. The attendant saw the hand and arm also and walked over to talk to the man and see his monkey. After finishing dispensing his gas he reversed his procedure to get the pump out of the car. Except!! He didn't close the driver's door tightly enough and it started to slowly open. The monkey was going to escape! Just then the attendant saw what was happening and slammed the door shut. On the monkey! I thought he killed him!!! Then I saw him on the dash of the bus. He wasn't moving. The attendant noticed the same thing and opened the door to see if he was OK. Mistake! The monkey grabbed his arm and pulled. The attendant managed to get loose and close the van's door. When the man came around his car after replacing the pump handle, the attendant told him what had happened. The man noticed that the arms of the attendant were both empty. He said to the attendant, "Where you wearing a watch?" Looking at his arm, the attendant said, "Yes I was." "Just a minute, I'll get it back for you." I'm sure this wasn't the first time that the monkey had stolen a watch. My guess is he was trained to do this! It was another extraordinary day in the life of an ordinary guy.
