The "Strawberries are in Season" Story
It was an ordinary day. Stopped in to see Wayne L. at "strawberry & company" in downtown Lancaster, near Central Market. For the past 10 years or so I had my altered Polaroidphotographs at the "Tag Shop" in Lancaster. My friend Barry K. owned and ran the "Tag Shop" with his wife, MaryJo, but five months ago, Barry died from cancer. I not only lost a life-long friend, but also the only location in Lancaster where I sold my photographs. I had told Barry that as long as he would keep my photos in his shop, I wouldn't sell them anywhere else in Lancaster. Worked great for both of us. Sold many and made a few dollars for both of us. With his death, I needed to find another location that was suitable for my prints. Mostof the prints were geared towards historical Lancaster. "Market Alley" was my biggest seller as well as "The Fulton Theater", "Penn Square", "The Heritage Center" and photos of most of thedowntown churches. I looked around the downtown area and found that the best place was right next door to the "Tag Shop". Place called "strawberry & company. Their website says: Come visit us this year as we transition into a gallery that features affordable artwork by talented artists from around the tri-state area. In addition, we offer a wide selection of antiques, replicas, jewelry, gift cards, candles, and CD’s. I hope I am one of the talented artists that has affordable artwork! Well, today, after stopping at Central Market for some fish for supper, I stopped to see howWayne was doing with my prints I had delivered to him about three weeks ago. "Larry!" he said as I opened the door. "Just sold one of your prints this morning." Great! A 14"x14" photo of Market Alley with a bicycle resting against one of the wooden parking posts. Have sold about a dozen of this one over the past few years and I knew he might have a good chance to sell another one. He placed my prints right inside the back door to his store, directly next to the entrance to the market house. Great place! I'm sure I made the right choice and have selected the right person to help sell my artwork. It was another extraordinary day in the life of an ordinary guy. PS - photos from the top are: King Street entrance to "strawberry & company", Wayne hanging one of my prints, Market Alley or rear entrance into the store.
Way to go LDub! Just Sue
