The "Pie of My Eye" Story

It was an ordinary day.  Just finished eating lunch and it's time to read before heading down to the water for a dip.  Tough life it is!  Spending the day on the beach in Provo is like being in heaven.  And, it's made even better by eating one of my new found desserts.  After a few days on the island we decided to rent a car to go exploring.  One of our first stops was to head to the Graceway IGA Supermarket for some snacks, rolls, lunch meat, fruit, candy and drinks.  While at the supermarket I saw some small boxed pies similar to Tastycake Pies.  Thought I'd try a few so I bought a couple each of apple, cherry and peach.   Had one for lunch that day and each day after will sitting under the umbrella on the beach.  Then one day after eating the pie I looked at the empty box to see exactly how much junk I really was eating.  Well, 0 Trans Fat and 0 Cholesterol.   Never mind that it had 17g of Fat and 540mg of Sodium.  I knew they couldn't be good for me, but I'm on vacation and trying to put on a few pounds so they worked just fine.  Then I read on the bottom of the box that they were made by JTM Foods, LLC in Erie, PA right across the state from me.  When I got back to Lancaster I got a craving for one of the pies one day after lunch and thought I would "Google" them to see how I could get a few.   Couldn't remember what they were called, but did remember that they were made in Erie, PA.  Finally found the company and there was the display on my screen for the pies. They looked as good in the photo as I remembered them.  They had a box to type in a request so I asked if I could buy some of the pies from them.  They responded immediately that they only sell to businesses.  Well, when I retired from teaching, but continued to work for the school doing their in-house printing, I formed Woods Printing Services.  So, I told them I would like to purchase them through Woods Printing Services.  The return email stated that they sell by the skid load and that is approximately 17,000 pies.  WOW!!  They were kind enough to tell me that they do sell to Sheetz which is a gasoline/made-to-order food convenience store throughout the north-east US.  So today I visited Sheetz for some gas and some pies.  Picked up 2 apple, 2 cherry, 1 lemon and 1 chocolate.  My favorite, peach, was not on the shelf and my guess was that it is a seasonal pie and I will have to wait until next summer when the peaches come in season.  And as soon as I had finished my soup and sandwich for lunch I had an apple pie for dessert.  Popped it in the microwave for 15 seconds and it was like eating fresh apple pie right out of the oven.  Only thing missing was the scoop or two of vanilla ice cream.  Looks like another stop tomorrow at the grocery store is in order.  It was another extraordinary day in the life of an ordinary guy.
