The "Pennsylvania 'Hole In The Wall Restaurant'" Story

The Neptune Diner
It was an ordinary day.  Just made a trip to Neptune Diner to take a few photos of the restaurant to give you an idea what the place that made it onto the list of "10 'Hole In The Wall' Restaurants In Pennsylvania That Will Blow Your Taste Buds Away" might look like.

In the post that I found it was stated that sometimes the most delicious food comes from the most nondescript restaurants - not that they are unappeal- ing from the outside, but just that they might not necessarily scream "Gourmet Fare Inside."  These hole-in-the-wall places are usually well known among the locals, but should be mentioned if you happen to be in the area and would like to try one.
The Red Eye Burger
Well, the restaurants came from all over the state with Pittsburgh, Danbury, Altoona, and Centre Hall being a few of the towns represented on the list.  The article says that the Neptune embodies all that we love about diners.  You can get such mouthwatering classics as the Red Eye Burger which comes with beef brisket and a fried egg on top.
Recent interior shot of the Neptune Diner in Lancaster, PA.
It was back in January of 2013 that I wrote about the spectacular meatloaf that was made at the diner and how it was featured on the Travel Channel's "Meatloaf Paradise."  I naturally had to take my family to give it a try and found it to be very good, but not as good as what my wife makes.  One of the family members who runs the restaurant, as well as a few other restaurants in the Lancaster, PA area, was a student in my Graphic Arts class in high school.  Never got the chance to see Alex during our visit, since he was busy at another restaurant that evening.  Then, back on July of last year, a fire struck the Neptune, closing it until just recently.  As you can see from my photo, the restaurant is a true 1950's retro-themed diner that features the rounded aluminum exterior with neon lighting and the Formica-top counter with shiny round bar stools.  There is seating for about 80 patrons at the Neptune and the fare offered is American and Greek dishes.  Neat place to meet people as well as grab a great meal.  If you are ever in Lancaster, give this "Hole In The Wall Restaurant" a try.  It was another extraordinary day in the life of an ordinary guy.
