The "A Few Short Stories" Story

It was an ordinary day.  Have decided to place a few short stories into one post to give you some of the happenings in our household from the past week or two.  Things such as …

• A former student of mine at Manheim Township High School, Jim Furyk, who graduated in 1988, shot a 58 this past Sunday during the PGA Travelers Championship.  The PGA Tour was founded in 1929 and no one had ever shot a 58 in tournament play until Jim did it.  
  
  There have been approximately 1.5 million rounds of golf in the history of the PGA since it first began and during that time there had been six 59s, but never any total lower than that.  Matter-of-fact, JIm carded one of those 59s.  In little league baseball Jim was a catcher and caught the year my oldest son pitched for the team they were both on.  After entering high school he concentrated on golf and basketball.  He graduated from the University of Arizona where he was an All-American twice, and led the Wildcats to their first and only NCAA title in 1992.  Neat to be able to say I had the only golfer in history to shoot a 58 in PGA Tour history in class in high school.  
• Lancaster Newspapers recently sponsored their first talent show which was held at the newspaper office studio.  There were about a dozen entries in what was titled as Lancaster's Got Talent.  The winner of the event was a 13-year-old boy who played the accordion.  You hear that … he played the accordion!  I played the accordion for about four or five years when I was the same age and even played in a few recitals, but realized I wan't destined for stardom, so I gave it up for sports.  This guy, Cody, can play nine or ten other instruments and thought he would enter with his accordion.  During this past March Cody and his family visited Europe and while there they bought him a custom-made accordion.  That was the one he used when he won the competition.  Perhaps if I had my own custom-made accordion when I was playing, I too may have been a star!
• Went to Costco, a global retailer with warehouse club operations, to get a new pair of prescription glasses.  I was told my prescription was too old so I went to my eye-doctor and got a new prescription.  
  
  Had the glasses made and when I picked them up a week later, I got terrible headaches due to the new prescription.  Went back to the doctor who looked at my prescription and said it didn't look correct so I was given another test.  Completely different prescription than what I was given on my first visit.  I asked, "So who will pay for my second set of new glasses." The doctor told me I wouldn't be charged for them.  And … they were right!   Costco told me that they remake new prescription glasses for free one time, just in case they may be wrong.  So that, my dear readers, is why I have been dealing with Costco for many years now.  The services they offer are unbelievable.

Three short stories about events in the past week that I thought were worthy or sharing with the world.  Thanks for taking the time to read them.  It was another extraordinary day in the life of an ordinary guy.
