It was an ordinary day. My youngest son, Tad, did it again. A week or so ago he emailed a YouTube video to my wife showing the musician "Disturbed" singing his rendition of Simon and Garfunkle's "The Sound of Silence". I was blown away with the guy. Loved his tonal range and his powerful voice. But, once again, Tad emailed another video to Carol which featured the group Clutch.
Clutch!
This video was called "Hot Bottom Feeder" and told the story of making crab cakes! Yep, a video on how to make crab cakes from blue crabs caught in the nearby Chesapeake Bay. Found out that the group Clutch hails from German- town, Maryland. The band members met while in high school and consider themselves a Frederick County band that was formed in 1991. Band members are: Neil Fallon on vocals, rhythm guitar and keyboards; Tim Sult on lead guitar and back-up vocals; Dan Maines on bass and back-up vocals; and Jean-Paul Gaster on drums and percussion. Clutch has been one of Tad's favorites since they first began and knows most of their work. The band's first live DVD, Full Fathom Five, was released in 2008. If you go online you can see the vast amount of work they have produced since the band began, but for me, "Hot Bottom Feeder" is what drew me to check out some of the songs they have recently made. I must admit I am a true blood rock 'n roll fan as well as a "Parrothead", so it would be hard for me to change to heavy metal, but I must admit I did enjoy "Hot Bottom Feeder". Check out the Clutch rendition which follows. Your foot just has to be tapping out the beat from start to finish. It was another extraordinary day in the life of an ordinary guy.
Dad, people usually categorize them as Blues Rock. They were a lot heavier back in the 90's but have progressed over the years. I think with some electric organ and harmonica they've definitely gotten more bluesy. Tad
