- A local bakery in Lancaster, Shady Maple, makes 406 dozen donuts DAILY! That's almost 5,000 donuts a day. And, that just one of many bakeries in Lancaster County.
- Crabs are a speciality at many Lancaster restaurants, but Mr. Bill's Seafood uses 3.5 TONS of crab seasoning in a year. Can you imagine how many tons of crabs are needed for all that seasoning!
- One of my favorite desserts is ice cream and one of my favorite places to get an ice cream cone in Lancaster County is Fox Meadows Creamery in nearby Ephrata. During one week's time they make 850 gallons of ice cream which yields 20,900 scoops. How long would it take you to consume that much?
- At one of Lancaster's coffee shops, Passenger Coffee, they make coffee grown in 20-25 different countries. As for me, I have never acquired a taste for coffee. I realize I am probably in the minority.
- Recently there was a craft show at a small town in northern Lancaster County known as Lititz. The fellow for whom I work part-time had a stand of his framed artwork and photographs for sale. On that one day Fink's French Fries wagon sold 1 ton of French fries!
- The Penn Cinema is one of just a few movie theaters in Lancaster County. During a week they will use 1,225 pounds of popcorn kernels to supply the popcorn to their patrons.
- In downtown Lancaster there is the popular Annie Bailey's Irish Public House. Over the past St. Patrick's Day celebration they made and sold: 102 kegs of beer (40 of them Guinness), 600 orders of shepherd's pie, 94 bottles of Jameson whiskey, 150 pounds of Irish bangers and 300 pounds of potatoes for various dishes.
- Dominion Pizza on Columbia Avenue in Lancaster uses 500 pounds of mozzarella cheese a week!
- At the Cocina Mexicana Restaurant at 112 N. Water Stret in downtown Lancaster, they use 200 avocados per week for guacamole and other dishes.

The "How Much Do You Eat and Drink?" Story
It was an ordinary day. Came across a page of facts about the type of food that is frequently found in Lancaster County, Pennsylvania and the amount of those foods that are sold and eaten from time to time. For those reading this story and who are not from the area, you may be interested in how much food can be consumed by the 543,557 people who call Lancaster County home; facts that I found both interesting as well as unbelievable. See if your locale cherishes the same foods and consumes the same amounts. It was another extraordinary day in the life of an ordinary guy.
