The "Oh For The Good Old Days!" Story

It was an ordinary day.  Looking through a few old magazines that I had forgotten I had in my filing cabinet.  One such magazine had tales from the past when I was a teenager back in the 1960s.  I had just learned to drive and had purchased a 1953 Henry J two-door car.  Loved the car and had fun transporting my friends to and from school as well as going to dances and parties on weekends.  From time to time we would stop at various ice cream shops for a cone or perhaps a sundae while we talked about the latest news that was important to teens at the time.  One location had a jukebox which seemed to always be playing our favorite songs.  We usually took turns putting dimes and nickels in the jukebox so we could hear our favorite songs.  Today, so many of the things we used to do have been forgotten, replaced by more modern technology.  Many locations still have juke boxes, but they have been stripped of the records that used to play the music and replaced with units that can hold a multitude of songs rather than fewer songs and only take quarters.

Oh for the good old days!
As I look around the places we sometimes head to eat lunch with friends or relatives today, I still see from time to time the juke boxes as well as many of the same types of decorations that used to fill the place, but I no longer see the smiling faces having a good time listening to the music like I used to do.  Instead I see many faces staring at their phones, only making eye contact with their phone.  Such a shame that people would rather look at a cell phone than engage in conversation as it was years ago.  I can't imagine what it will be like in the future!  Getting to the point where it seems useless to go to a restaurant to eat and enjoy conversation with friends, since most of your friends are sitting in a booth looking at their cell phone until their food arrives.  Oh, for the good old days when people sat and talked with one another and enjoyed the company of friends and family.  Will it ever be that way again?  I can only hope it will be that way once again, but I'm not taking any bets on it.  It was another extraordinary day in the life of an ordinary guy.
