The "Lost Night" Story

It was an ordinary day. We were headed to the top of the mountain located in Havensight which is next to the cruise dock in St. Thomas, US Virgin Islands. We are riding the Paradise Point Tramway which will take us to "The Best Sunset In Paradise." Jerry and Just Sue are joining Carol and I for one of the best days of our vacation. As we get on the tram we are each given a coupon for a free drink at the "Happy Hour at Paradise Point." Don't want to miss this! The coupon is good for a Coors Light or a Rum Punch and also good for a free ride down the mountain after we have had enough fun. The view is gorgeous from the restaurant on the top of the mountain. Below us is Charlotte Amalie, the capital of St. Thomas. Two cruise ships are in the harbor and their lights are starting to twinkle in the pre-dawn light. We are lucky to be some of the first people to arrive and select a table by the edge so we have some of the best seats in the restaurant. I have my trusty Minolta autofocus SLR with me tonight to document the occasion. I have a fresh roll of 36 exposures so I don't miss anything. Shoot a couple shots at twilight and a few of the ships as they make their way out of the harbor. Fantastic!! We are ready to order our meal. If only the food was on the same par as the view. Hot dogs and baked beans with cole slaw plus another round of rum punches for all of us......and this was one of the better choices. NO PROBLEM! We're in heaven! An hour later a four piece Oldies Band sets up next to us and begins playing. I stuff a few dollars in the jar and ask for a Buffett song. I continue to document the evening with photos of the band and time lapse exposures of the harbor showing the planes coming down into the airport. About two hours later we decide it's time to try to find our way home. We walk over to the tram and.........what? It's closed. We missed the last car down. "You can either walk down the road or wait for the bus that can take you down," said the bartender. A NO BRAINER ! The bus is full and tends to lean quite a bit, but we make it down. The car ride back to Crystal Cove was a piece of cake. The next day is our final day and after check-out we grab a cab to take us to the airport. On the way to the airport I see some more neat shots so I load another roll of film in my camera. After check-in and security we head to the concourse to wait. All of a sudden it hits me. MY FILM! The one with all the neat shots. It's on the back seat of the cab. NO PHOTOS FOR YOU!! It was another extraordinary day in the life of an ordinary guy.
