The "Tainted Cookie" Story

It was an ordinary day. I had just gotten up and was reading the newspaper. I had the local TV Channel on in the background. Kinda like killing two birds at the same time. A story on the TV all of a sudden caught my attention. Slimfast Company was recalling all of its liquid drink products. I walked over to the pantry and there were the drinks on the shelf. I pulled one off and compared it to the photo on the TV. Yep, it's what we have in the pantry. I walk to the steps and yell to Carol to turn on TV quickly so she can see about the recall. For a few days she had been complaining about her stomach being unsettled. Bingo! Now we know why. Could cause diarrhea and nausea was what they said on the TV. Throw all your supply out. Yea, right! We have 14 cans in the pantry. Just throw them out? The next day I try Slimfast's website and there on the top of the screen is a place to email them your address and how many you are throwing out. OK. Will they really believe me? How many people will lie about it? Maybe they will send a replacement or a coupon........or maybe they will hope you forget about it. Almost a year ago to the day I was reading the newspaper and watching TV when the same thing happened. Anyone with Nestles' Chocolate Cookie Dough in a plastic tub purchased since a certain date should discard it because of e-coli contamination. That's just dandy! We just bought a tub at Costco. Last night Carol baked the entire tub of cookies for a workshop where she is employed and I naturally tested them for her. A few extra after she went up to bed! I can feel my stomach start to feel queasy already. By the end of the day the diarrhea had struck. Was it all in my head? Maybe some, but an awful lot came out the other end. Well, I decided to pack up all the uneaten cookies and head to Costco for a refund. Put them all in a bag and took them with the empty container to the store. Couldn't find the receipt, but hey, I had the cookies and the tub. I entered and headed to the "Returns" counter. A extremely pregnant girl was there to greet me. The odor coming from the bag was overwhelming. Chocolate cookie smells. She grabbed the bag and opened it, looking in for a moment. She knew why I was there. There were more tubs behind her in a cart. She said, "You're really mean. I have this craving for chocolate and this smell is killing me!" It was another extraordinary day in the life of an ordinary guy.
