The "Deciding to Tat or Too" Story

It was an ordinary day.  Getting ready to shower when the phone rang.  "Hey, Dad!  Did you see me on TV this morning?" my son Tad asked me.  "Geez, I forgot all about it and I'm not sure if mom recorded it," I told him.  "But don't worry.  I'll pull the WGAL Channel 8 web page up on my computer and watch it.  They're bound to put it on their web page."  About six weeks or so ago Tad called and said that WGAL, which is an NBC station in Lancaster, PA, just filmed a segment about having tattoos removed. He told us that they filmed him as well as a few other guys who had tattoos, but wasn't sure if he would be on TV or not.  He was excited about the segment and called to tell us to watch it.  Well, six weeks flies by for someone my age, and I totally forgot about it. He told me a bit about what was shown this morning on the 6:00 AM news.  Lori Burkholder, a WGAL reporter, visited the tattoo place called Transcending Flesh to see how a tattoo is done and talk to someone who has had a tattoo as well as the owner of the place.  Wanted to see what the trend is about having tattoos as compared to a few years ago.  The feature opened with Tad sitting on a chair with his arm being worked on by Steve Lowery, owner of the place.  Steve was a student of mine in high school who excelled in art.  His work is fantastic and he is so busy that he had to hire a few more artists.  Tad talks about what he will not have tattooed, such as his head and hands, in order to be able to cover them if it becomes necessary.  Then the camera switches to a woman who works with Career Link, a service that helps place people in jobs, and she tells about what employers expect in regards to people with tattoos.  Then a young girl is featured telling why she decided to have her tattoo, which was on her neck and hard to conceal, removed.  A few minutes after I hung up with Tad, I had the clip on my computer.  He did a great job and the tattoo of his grandfather in his army uniform is a big part of what they showed.  I'm sure he was proud of that.  Lori did a good job telling the story and gave the viewers the pro and cons of having tattoos that can be seen even when dressed.  I copied the link and sent it to my daughter and my other son so they could see their brother on TV.  Never really questioned them about their thoughts on all the ink that Tad displays on his body, but he is fully covered except for the areas that he will not have done.  As for me ……… well, I like to put my artwork on my walls of my house whereas my son likes to display his on his body.  Is there a difference?  Tad's a class act and to me that is more important than worrying about ink on his body.  I'm sure some think differently, but everyone has their own opinions.  It was another extraordinary day in the life of an ordinary guy.  PS - Here is the link so you can see the clip and make your own decision about tattoos.  Copy and paste it in your computer's address bar.
