The "Just Another Birthday" Story
It was an ordinary day. We were getting ready to celebrate Carol's birthday with a meal and a birthday treat. Nothing out of the ordinary except today we are in Providenciales, Caicos, B.W.I. The BWI stands for British West Indies. It seems that each year when we travel with our friends Jerry and Just Sue we are always away from home on her birthday. It really is kind of neat that she gets to celebrate her birthday on exotic islands in the Caribbean. Today we are at Calico Jack's Bar and Grill for the occasion. We are sitting on top of the bar on a deck under the stars on a beautiful moonlit night with a few of the island residents. They soon find out that it is her birthday, since we make sure that everyone knows. The banner we pull out is a sure give away. I'm not sure what she had for supper that night, but I'm pretty sure she had a "Turk's Head" beer. That is the beer of the island and she always celebrates with the beer of the island. Time for dessert and I remind the waitress that it is her birthday. I ask her if she can put a candle on her dessert for a treat. Well, the dessert arrives and sure enough, the cake has a big blue candle right in the middle. The little girl at the next table see what is going on and moves closer so she can be part of the celebration. In no time she is between Carol and I looking at the cake. We all sing, and I mean everyone, and the little girl steps in to blow out the candle. It was another memorable birthday for Carol and another extraordinary day in the life of an ordinary guy.
