It was an ordinary day. Searching for the Grange Fair tent that best displayed the theme of “140 Years At The Grange Fair.” After walking through the myriad of tents we finally came upon a tent that had photos of past years, old signs and momentos of past fairs and a sign that read “The more things change, the more they stay the same.” As we were viewing all the decorations from past years, a woman rose from her chair inside the tent and greeted us wearing a bright red Grange Fair sweatshirt. Kathy told us all about her display and told us we had missed the running video show that she had to remove so her computer wouldn’t get damaged by all the recent rain they had experienced at the fairgrounds.
Kathy's prize winning Grange Fair tent.
She told us she was by herself since her husband no longer enjoyed her passion for the fair and living in a tent for a week of vacation and her three children had recently departed to prepare to head back to school. This is the second tent site that she has had over the many years that she has been camping at the Grange Fair. Her first tent she had inherited from her grandmother, but she decided on a different one a few years ago. The passion and enthusiam Kathy displayed towards the Grange Fair and tenting was evident. People like Kathy are what make the Grange Fair so much fun to visit every year. It was another extraordianry day in the life of an ordinary guy.
