The "Aging With Attitude" Story
It was an ordinary day. Just clicked the link "Next Blog" on the top of my blog that is in a bar that is medium gray in color. Have found quit a few really neat blogs while searching that link. Some though haven't displayed new posts for quite some time while others have more regular posts. Every once in a while I will come across a blog that carries posts on a weekly basis, but I must admit, I haven't found too many that have new posts on a daily basis such as my blog. It was September 2, 2009 that I began "Extraordinary Stories From An Ordinary Guy" and since my first blog I haven't missed posting a daily story more than a couple dozen times. It was in late August of 2009 that my wife and I, along with our friends Jerry and Just Sue, who live in State College, Pennsylvania, made a trip to the movies while on a visit to State College. Movie was "Julie and Julia" which starred Meryl Streep as Julia Child and Amy Adams as Julie Powell who decided to cook every recipe in Julia Child's Mastering the Art of French Cooking and blogging about every day's meal. On the way out of the theatre I told my wife, "I'm going to do that." "Do what?" she said. "Write a blog!" I responded. "You don't know how to do that," she said. "That may be true .... but you're going to help me start," I told her. My first story followed in early September titled "The White Rat." Story was about a family of white rats that my grandfather bought for me at a farmer's market in Lancaster County, PA. Check the light green box on my blog and you can find it. Well, that was six years ago and I'm still finding extraordinary stories to share with you.
My blog has become a history of my life and those whom share it with me. If you notice I start every story the same. My favorite author, Stuart Woods, always began his stories with ... "Elaine's late!" and I always looked forward to that line. I decided I would also have a lead-in line. Elaine no longer is a character in Stuart's books, but I haven't changed my lead line yet. A few years after I started the blog, I added a counter to see if anyone was reading my stories. It will soon reach 300,000. A big thanks to all of you from all over the world who read my stories. Find it hard to believe that I have readers from places such as Russia, India, Ireland, Poland, Sint Maarten, China and Japan, to name a few. Since I started writing, the majority of my readers have come from the United States with Germany, Russia, France, Canada and Ukraine next in line. Most use the browser Internet Explorer while Windows is the main operating system used. I found that other countries can access my blog in the language of their country. I recently read that the average age for bloggers is getting higher. Don't know how they can figure that out, but more and more people in their 50s and 60s are writing blogs. Seniors have been somewhat invisible online, but now find they can begin blogging and share their knowledge and writing skills with the world. My wife picked Blogspot as the platform for my blog when she helped me begin, but there are others to choose from if you care to start. Sned me a comment telling me where I can find your blog. As for me, I'm not ready to quit quite yet. I'm still having fun and it gives me something to do instead of watching TV. Thanks to all of you who read on a regular basis. Hope you continue to stay with me in the future. It was another extraordinary day in the life of an ordinary guy.
