It was an ordinary day. Working at Grebinger Gallery and just finishing about two dozen frames for an artist who lives in nearby Lititz, PA. Andy Smith is a self-taught watercolor artist who describes his style as Contemporary Realism. He says his goal is to create paintings that capture subjects which other people overlook. He lives in the small town to the north of Lancaster, Pennsylvania with his wife Linda. His home also doubles as his studio and gallery where he holds an annual open house for people to come and visit and see his work.
One of Andy's watercolors.
It was years ago that I was visiting the Lititz Art Show and found Andy's work. Amazing! His attention to detail and the subtle colors that appear in everyday life is what makes his paintings so beautiful. Years ago he worked in an auto body shop, but eventually quit that job to devote his entire life to his love of painting. His success allows him to continue his passion of painting. A few years ago he came to the Gallery to see if we could supply him with the framing he needs to produce the paintings he sells out of his home gallery as well as at the many shows he enters throughout the year. He keeps it simple with two styles of frames.
Finishing the packing of Andy's framing.
One is a very simple black frame and the other is a thicker mahogany-looking reddish-brown frame. He purchases the framing lumber and brings it to the gallery where I cut the frames to the sizes he needs and then assemble them. He purchases the mats and glass separately from other suppliers and assembles everything himself in his home shop. The quantity of frames he buys speaks well of the quantity of artwork that he sells. There are many times when I will cut and assemble 50 frames at one time. Then a few weeks later he is back again with another large order. Most are ordered in the summer months when he is busy with local art shows. Well, the frames he just requested are finished and packaged according to size and waiting for him to arrive for pickup. I'm sure they won't last long with the following that Andy has built over the past 30 or more years. Check out his blog at http://www.andysmithartist.blogspot.com or his Pinterest page at: Art - Andy Smith, watercolorist of Lititz PA. I'm sure if you Google him you will find review after outstanding review from those who have purchased his work. All carry the 5 Star rating! It is truly an honor to be able to supply Andy with the wrapping for his artwork. It was another extraordinary day in the life of an ordinary guy.
