The "I Want To Play Myself On 'Dateline'" Story

It was an ordinary day.  Opened my MacBook Air and began to check my emails.  After finding nothing of interest, I opened my blog in hopes of beginning a new story to share in the near future.  Saw I had two new "Comments" so I clicked on the first one and for a few seconds was stunned by what I read.  The comment read: LDub: Please give me a call.  It's regarding an ongoing cold case homicide investigation: Ref: Gary Alan Robbins.  The comment had been placed on a story I had written over two years ago about the APBA Baseball Game Company and the miniature stadiums I made.  The comment came from Det./Sgt. Henry M.   A phone number and Email address were attached to the comment.  What should I do?   I looked at my wife and said, "You'll never believe what someone wrote in a comment on my blog!"  I read the email to her and we both agreed not to respond to the email.  Then I began to wonder if it was "for real" and I should try to help the police.  I told Carol that I would send a return email to Det. M. to see how I could help.  My return email told him I suspect the comment to be a scam and that he was going to ask for money.  Couldn't be more than a minute later that I got another email saying it was not a scam and gave me more information about the case.  They had a homicide on December 1, 1983.  The victim was Nancy Pucci who was found shot in the back of her head.  A person of interest had been developed.  That person, known as Gary Alan Robbins, played in an APBA league in Pittsburgh, PA.  He eventually killed himself in 1988.  He also told me that during his research that another APBA player told him that Gary had an interest in the APBA game.  So, he began to do some more research and found the story about the APBA Game Company on my blog.  Then the email followed asking for help from me.  After the second email I thought it was for real, but did call our local police department to ask if a Det./Sgt. Henry Marchesani actually worked for the Bel Air, Maryland Police Department.  Within a minute, my local contact said he did and gave me the department phone number.  Yep...it matched the number I was given in the first email.  So I placed a phone call and before long I was talking to Sgt. Marchesani.  He asked me questions which I answered and I asked him some questions about the case.  I'm not sure how helpful I might have been to the Detective, but I did have an interesting conversation about the murders that Gary Alan Robbins committed and how he killed himself.  I believe that Sgt. Marchesani thinks he has the right man in Robbins, but he still has that sneaky feeling that there may be a bit more to the entire case and can't put it to sleep until he uncovers everything he possibly can.  So, for now the case is listed as an ongoing cold case homicide and I'm sure will be until Sgt. Marchesani is sure he has all the correct answers.  I kind of got the feeling that he is the type of policeman I would want working on my case had something happened to me.  It was another extraordinary day in the life of an ordinary guy.  PS - If you might have any information regarding the ongoing cold case homicide investigation on Gary Alan Robbins, please call Sgt Marchesani at 410-638-4515 or Email: hmarchesani@belairmd. org.  PPS - My daughter, after hearing my story, told me it sounds like a story for "Dateline."  She suggested I play myself when that happens!
