It was an ordinary day. My wife Carol and I had stopped at S. Clyde Weaver's Store & Cafe on Manheim Pike to pick up a few grocery items for lunches.
We shop there because they have the world's best sand tarts as well as luncheon meats and cheese. One of our favorite deli meats is ham-off-the-bone. Dave, who was helping us behind the counter, weighed our items and packaged them for us. It was at that time, when we turned to head to the check-out counter, that we saw this huge block of Wisconsin Cheddar Cheese. |

On the sheet of paper that sat atop the block of cheese listed the weight of the cheese as 1,143 pounds and stated "That's a lot of cheese!" We talked with Dave about the block of cheese and he told us that when they have exhausted all the Wisconsin cheese in their counter, they would cut the big block. |

They are thinking of letting people know when they might be cutting it so they can arrive to watch the procedure. He said they will use a wire in order to slice the cheese. Carol and I have shopped at Weaver's for many years, stopping at times at their store near the Lancaster Shopping Center as well as the store on Manheim Pike. They not only sell their products at the store, but have a cafe at one end of the store where you can enjoy a cup of coffee and have a bite of lunch. Some of the products that we enjoy buying are candies, ready-to-go-meals, pies, Hodecker's celery, gourmet dog biscuits, local fresh fruits and vegetables a variety of drinks as well as their lunch meats and cheeses. |

Their shelves are packed with so many items, that it's hard to get out of the place without something yummy. About the only things you can't find are laundry detergent, paper towels and toilet paper! Well, we thanked Dave for his help and asked if we could take a photograph of him in front of the cheese to show the actual size of the block of cheese. Dave naturally had to grab one of his big knives to show you how big the cheese really was. We will keep an eye on our local paper to see when he may be cutting the cheese so we can watch the procedure. It was another extraordinary day in the life of an ordinary guy.
