The "A Freebee is Always Appreciated" Story
It was an ordinary day. I had just finishing putting the new globe on our light in the bathroom. Seems a few days ago I was taking the globe off the light so I could replace the lightbulb and after I put a new bulb in the socket I put the globe back in place. Didn't have it fastened correctly and when I took my hand away from the globe, it crashed into the granite countertop. That night Carol was having a dozen friends from where she works for a cook-out. And, I knew that some would want to see what our bathroom with it's Caribbean influenced sinks looked like. Well, it didn't get fixed and they had to imagine what the light would have looked like with the globe in place. Next week I'm having a few members of the rifle team that I coached for dessert and I will want to show them the bathroom as well. Today I headed to the local electrical store where we purchased them to see if I could get a new globe. Talked to the first young girl I saw as I entered the store. Explained my situation and told her I was having someone to look at the new bathroom in a few days. She checked her computer and said she could get a new globe, but it would take 4-6 weeks. "Oh, nuts," I said. "Do you have any lights that match my light on display? Maybe I could buy one of the display globes and you could replace that one when the new globe arrives." We went looking and sure enough, there was the exact light fixture that I have. She told me to take one of the globes off the fixture to replace the one I broke. "Where do I go to pay for this?" I asked her. She said, "Just take it. When the new one arrives I'll put it back on the display fixture." "Wow! You better believe that I'll be back in this store when I need another light," I told her. She smiled and said, "I'll be looking for you!" It was another extraordinary day in the life of an ordinary guy.
