The "laissez les bons temps rouler" Story
It was an ordinary day. Raining! Rained hard during most of the night and the metal roof on our villa in paradise echoes the rain like a steel drum. I can see streaks of blue sky off in the distance this morning, but it doesn't matter anyway, since we must leave behind our past couple of weeks and head back to reality today, because today is a travel day. I got up and opened the hurricane shutters and saw my friends the sugar birds where waiting for their morning meal, even in the light drizzle that still lingers. Used the last bit of the third bag of sugar we had purchased during our vacation and tried to explain to them that they would have to find other eating accommodations after we closed the shutters for the last time on our trip. I'm sure they will be waiting for our return as they always do. Hopped in the rental car, R-9, and headed to Orient Village for our breakfast croissants. Last evening we took the Jimmy Buffett CD out of the player in the car so as not to forget to take it home, so this morning I hit a preset station and an instantly serenaded by an island band playing "Dreams" by the Eberly Brothers for my trip down the hill and "Under the Boardwalk" by the Drifters on the way back to the villa. Gonna miss this place!! Probably the best vacation we have had on St. Martin. We had planned and planned for months what we were going to do this vacation, but most of the plans fell by the wayside due to "sand gravity." The beach is tough to get away from. A trip to neighboring Anguilla - canceled; a few shopping days in the capital of the French side of the island of Marigot and the capital of the Dutch side Philipsburg - trimmed to one day each; trip to the Simpson Bay Marina to watch the large yachts enter - canceled; a trip to Happy Bay which is a favorite - canceled; and a first time trip to French cul de sac for Fish Day - canceled, but not missed evidently since there was violence which resulted in a few deaths at that location. Couldn't even participate in our final day event of breakfast on the beach and a dip in the ocean before we returned, because of the rain. All that's left to do is pack, say goodbye to our home for the last few weeks and return the key. Oh yeah, we need to pick out the dates for our travel next year with the realtor so that "sand gravity" may once again take over our lives. It was another extraordinary day in the life of an ordinary guy. PS - We'll see you soon Creamsicle, as if you can read. Also, my title means "let the good times roll."
