The "Life with Camille" Story
It was an ordinary day. Just got home from work and saw the flashing light on my desk in the office. Hit the button and settled into my chair to listen to the messages I had received from this morning. Mostly junk except for the one from my granddaughter Camille. Told me that she had just posted her very first story on her new blog. Camille is 9 years old and loves to write. Carol and I visited with Camille and her family this past weekend in Urbana, Maryland. During our visit she showed me her special folder that she just got that features a really neat cover with a script letter "C" in the center. Inside was a notebook of lined paper that featured stories that she had written in the last year or two. Most were stories of her young life and what she enjoys doing in school and in her free time. I read a few of the stories and found them to be very interesting. Uses quite a few adjectives in her writing to add extra interest for the reader. Later that same day she traveled with me to a local historical landmark to talk with the architect who was going to help with the restoration of the house. We traveled through the house and later returned to photograph the outside of the home. I could tell she was enjoying herself and even asked a few questions of her own. I was showing her a few stories that I had recently posted on my blog and she enjoyed reading them. The next morning, her family as well as Carol and myself had breakfast at the local International House Of Pancakes. I noticed that she had her camera with her and every so often she would snap a few photos. Before we left the restaurant I called her to my side and gave her a suggestion. "Since you enjoy writing stories so much, why don't you start your own blog with your stories and you can illustrate them with your photos," I said. Her eyes grew large and the corners of her mouth turned upward at the suggestion. "I know you can do it!" I told her. Well, as soon as we returned home our daughter helped her set up her blog and she was ready to go. I suggested she write about the swim meet she had participated in the previous day.
Didn't take long before she had the first couple of sentences typed on the screen. She asked if she could use some of the photos I took of her at the meet and in no time I had emailed them to her and they appeared on her screen. That was yesterday and today I got the phone message telling me that she had just posted the story. I called my other granddaughter Courtney on her phone and asked for the name of Camille's blog so I could access it. Courtney is 11 years old and a whiz on the computer, as many of today's youth seem to be, and told me that she helped Camille with the typing and adding of the photos for the story. I got the blog address and made a visit. Carol was in the next room and I started to read some of the story to her. In no time at all we were both amazed at the content and interest she put in her first post. If you care to visit her site and see for yourself, just click on this link to see "Life with Camille." www.storieswithcamille.blogspot.com. If you enjoy it you may want to add a comment which would encourage Camille to continue to post stories of her young life. It was another extraordinary day in the life of an ordinary guy.
