It was an ordinary day. Spending some of my free time on a few obscure websites looking for nothing in particular. One I came across listed 59 Quick Slang Phrases from The 1920s that we should start to use once again. I read the list and agreed with a few of them, but certainly not all of them. I have picked a few to share with you so you too can see how people spoke in the 1920s. I'm sure you will enjoy them as much as I did. I did include what each phrase meant in case you didn't remember or didn't know in the first place what the phrase might have been. It was another extraordinary day in the life of an ordinary guy.
1. Ankle: meant to walk
2. Bimbo: referred to a macho man
3. Bluenose: term for a prude or individual deemed to be a killjoy
4. Bubs: a woman's boobs
5. Butt me!: Give me a cigarette
6. Cancelled Stamp: a shy, lonely female one would describe today as a wallflower
7. Cheaters: Glasses or bifocals
8. Dewdropper: a slacker who sits around all day and does nothing.
9. Dumb Dora: an unintelligent woman
10. Giggle water: liquor, alcoholic beverage
11. Go Chase Yourself: Get out of here
12. Handcuff: engagement ring
13. Hayburner: a car with poor gas milage or guzzler
14. Hotsy-totsy: attractive, pleasing to the eye
15. Iron one's shoelaces: to excuse oneself for the restroom
16. Jake: Okay or fine, such as "Don't worry, everything's Jake."
17. Know your onions: to know what's up or what's going on
18. Mazuma: Dollar bills, cash, money
19. Noodle juice: tea
20. Now you're on the trolley!: Now you've gotten it right
21. Oliver Twist: an extremely good dancer
22. Quilt: An alcoholic beverage that keeps you warm
23. Panther piss: homemade whiskey
24. Petting pantry: a cinema or movie theatre
25. Sinker: a donut
26. Sockdollager: an event or action of great importance
27. Spifflicated: inebriated
28. Tomato: a woman
29: Upstage: arrogant, snobby
30. Whoopee: to have a good time
31. Wurp: wet blanket or person seen as a buzzkill
