It was an ordinary day. Looking at a newspaper photograph of Larry reclining in the front yard. Now this isn't just any Larry, but the one who is Britain's Chief Mouser who lives at No. 10 Downing Street. The Larry who is brown and white and had to fight with Dilyn the dog for supremacy of the Downing Street complex.

Larry in front of 10 Downing Street |
Larry lives at one of the world's most famous addresses. He was preparing to greet the house's next occupant, Liz Truss with much the same fanfare as he did for the last resident, Theresa May. It was back in 2012 that the staff at 10 Downing Street took Larry in as a rescue stray to be a pet for the children of Prime Minister David Cameron. Over the years he was given the name of Exalted Chief Mouser to the Cabinet Office, a post he has filled admirably since then. Now, I should add that the "admirably" is based upon whom you talk with. Prime Minister Boris Johnson, in his recent farewell remarks, gave Larry a shout-out, noting that he had overcome an initially faction relationship with the Johnson's family dog, Dilyn. It was said that if Dilyn and Larry can put behind their fractious relationship, so can the Conservative Party. Larry was said to have his own Twitter account that posts occasionally snarky observations about a rotating cast of prime ministers. For years Larry has tackled rodent problems and in return received a penny a day for his hard work. In 2019 Larry made the news when he took a nap under the presidential vehicle, a $1.5 million armored Cadillac known as The Beast. But, Larry is no different than any others who live or work at 10 Downing. The British tabloids criticized him for losing a battle with a local pigeon. He also needed some outside help to get the Foreign Office's mouse Palmerston under control. Seems like Britain's foreign secretary enjoys Larry after he said that Larry frequently sidles up to him and is one of Larry's preferred Cabinet members. As of now, Larry's place at 10 Downing Street is secure! It was another extraordinary day in the life of an ordinary guy.
