It was an ordinary day. Watching my all-time favorite show on television...Seinfeld. From “yadda yadda yadda” to “no soup for you,” Seinfeld delivered a lot of memorable lines in its nine seasons on NBC. The sitcom, created by Jerry Seinfeld and Larry David, aired from 1989 to 1998, with more than 170 episodes. And although it has been described as a show about “nothing,” it had a substantial impact on television and pop culture at large, creating jokes that still serve as cultural shorthand today.
The four core characters were New Yorkers annoyed by everything and not afraid to grouse. Jerry (Jerry Seinfeld), Elaine (Julia Louis-Dreyfus), George (Jason Alexander), and Kramer (Michael Richards) were an odd bunch, but the chemistry worked. They riffed off of each other and were intimately acquainted with one another’s quirks and sore spots. They knew how to get under each other’s skin but also how to build each other back up. The show was at its best when it captured the mundane observations of its characters. From their wacky ideas on restaurant seating to breakups, food, and board games.
