It was an ordinary day. Trying to think what I might want to write about Valentines' Day. Didn't take long for me to decide to write very little about "Sweet Nothings" as they are called, since I totally forgot Valentine's Day this year. You may have noticed! Well, anyway, "Sweet Nothings" are the little conversation hearts that you can find in any candy store during the Valentine's Day week and earlier. As I read about the little candy treats I wondered who wrote all the sayings that cover the little colorful candy hearts. I read that it might have been someone who wanted to attempt to universalize the language of love. What are the precise combinations of words that make people feel adored? I read that it's tricky to find the right combination of words. Candy Hearts are said to be broad, democratic, all-inclusive. Their messages are marvels of economy, limited to nine letters, fewer if there's a "W" involved. PURR FECT might not have the same personal ring that an earnestly penned love letter does, but people still love the hearts. How long will it be before candy companies let artificial intelligence determine the language of love? Let's hope we have a few more years of "BE MINE" and "SAY YES" before the robots take over. So...in case you might have missed Valentine's Day as I did this year, I'm sure you can still find bags and bags of left-over candy hearts in case you might want to put them away until next year. The candy can't be any worst next year than it has been in the past. It was another extraordinary day in the life of an ordinary guy.
