It was an ordinary day. Reading about a famous historical landmark that has been closed since the summer of 2022 that will reopen in the near future. Little Round Top, a rocky hill at Gettysburg National Park in Adams County, was the location where Confederate soldiers attempted to assault the Union on July 2, 1863, the second day of the Battle of Gettysburg during the Civil War. Little Round Top was the scene of fierce fighting and was successfully defended by the 20th Maine Volunteer Infantry Regiment, the 16th Michigan, and the 44th New York and the 83rd Pennsylvania. The National Park Service said Little Round Top is expected to reopen in late spring or early summer this year. The rehabilitation project was necessary, according to the National Park Service, to "address overwhelmed parking areas, poor accessibility and related safety hazards, significant erosion, and degraded vegetation." "The scope of the project will re-restablish, preserve, and protect the features that make up this segment of the battlefield landscape. This project will also enhance the visitor experience with improved interpretive signage, new assessable try alignments, and gathering areas." "These improvements will allow visitors to better immerse themselves into the historic landscape that is essential to understanding the three-day Battle of Gettysburg." The Battle of Gettysburg during the Civil War was fought July 1-3, 1863. The battle was a pivotal turning point in the Civil War. If you get a chance to visit the Battlegrounds around Gettysburg, I'm sure you would enjoy the historic sites around Little Round Top at Gettysburg National Military Park in Adams County, Pennsylvania. It was another extraordinary day in the life of an ordinary guy.
