It was an ordinary day. Reading about a local Lancaster, PA DJ who was featured in a Washington Post article for his remixes of songs from Taylor Swift's latest album, "The Tortured Poets Department." Nick Reiner, a DJ known under the moniker Major Vibes, was featured in a Washington Post article recently titled "Taylor Swift's latest is a 'downer' for some. Enter the DIY remix." Reiner, who lives in Lancaster city, has been remixing songs from "The Tortured Poets Department" to make them more danceable, as he wanted to feature a few new songs in a future Tylor Swift dance party at Tellus360. Swift's latest album is introspective and slower, not featuring as many party-ready hits as previous albums. Reiner says he was shocked when Washington Post reporter Tricia Romano contacted him after seeing his TikTok videos. "It was a real 'right time, right place' moment," Reiner said to Lancaster News Paper - LancasterOnline last Thursday. "Social following is the lifeblood of the creative world these days, so anything that can expand my reach is super helpful." Reiner says he likes to stay on top of current music trends and figured that remixing Swift's latest release would be a good way to find a new following. He was right. So far, Reiner has remixed 10 songs from the 31-song album. His remixes of songs like "Down Bad" and "Myboy Only Breaks His Favorite Toys" have gone viral on TikTok with tens of thousands of views. The Washington Post article includes other creators making remixes from Swift's songs, though Reiner is featured most prominently. Reiner's next Taylor Swift-themed dance party, "Party: Taylor's Version," will be at 7 p.m. August 24 at Tellus360. Tickets cost $15 in advance, or $20 the day of. Partygoers must be 21 years old or older. Reiner says the party has already sold more than 200 tickets, so those interested should purchase tickets soon.
