The "Do You Know What is Buried in Your Backyard?" Story
It was an ordinary day. Just mowing the grass or what's left of the grass. After the past two months of 90 and 100 degree days there is not much grass left to mow. Especially on the bank next to my driveway that houses the 7 English Walnut trees. And the reason that the grass yellows as soon as it gets hot and the sun bakes the earth is there is just a thin layer of dirt on the bank. Under the dirt is a collection of cars. Yep! My next door neighbor Hank Harvey said that when they built my house he used to sit on his deck and watch. Where the trees are now used to be a small quarry and when they had finished the house they put the debris in the hole and added at least a half dozen crushed cars on top of that before they put crushed stone and dirt on the top. He's surprised that the trees actually grew in that combination. And, grass! No way can that grow. Every year it looks great in the spring and slowly turns yellow as the summer progresses. Guess I could put in anirrigation system, but I would have a hard time digging a channel to put in the pipes for the water. And, from my back deck I can't see the bank anyway, so what does it matter if the grass is yellow? It was another extraordinary day in the life of an ordinary guy.
