JoJo the Dolphin in Turks and Caicos
|
It was an ordinary day. Reading an email sent to me by Randy who Carol and I met on our recent trip to the Turks and Caicos islands. Seems that the island of Provenciales is planning to build a captive dolphin park to attract tourism. Randy owns property on the island and constantly dives in the waters off the coast. He is heartbroken that this could happen. Hope it never comes about. We visited Tortola one year with the intent of swimming with the dolphins and by the time we got there they had closed the dolphin park. It was causing harm and death to the dolphins. I got a chance to see the captive pool that they had to shut down and was astonished that dolphins could be kept in such a place. Opened my eyes a little bit and I had a change of heart. After reading more about the captive parks and what happens to the dolphins in those parks, I am so against them. Randy sent me the email with hopes that many will sign the petition to stop the effort. Please help him and the island from going forward with the captive park. It was another extraordinary day in the life of an ordinary guy. PS - Randy's letter and link for you to sign the petition follow:
Hello Friends
Ordinarily I would not ask something like this, but this issue is near and dear to my heart. Many of you have been with us in the beautifulTurks and Caicos Islands and have seen for yourselves why their slogan is "Beautiful by Nature".
For some unfathomable reason the government has given a tentative ok to build a captive dolphin park on the north side of the island. This is an island where dolphins swim free in the waters every day. JoJo the dolphin (a free wild dolphin) loves to come in near the shore and play with the awestruck tourists. I have had the pleasure of swimming with JoJo myself, and it is truly magical. To capture dolphins and keep them in a tank just to make money is unthinkable to those of us who love the wild and free aspects of our dolphin "encounters". There have been charges of abuse of the animals in these tanks also. We, who loveProvo and the Turks, can't allow that to happen.
So I am sending a link to an on-line petition asking to stop this from happening. Please take a minute and sign the petition. We don't need fake tourist traps when we have the beauty of God-given nature in the Turks. Even if you have not yet been there, please take a moment to put your name on the petition.
The petition: SAY NO TO CAPTIVE DOLPHINS IN THE TURKS AND CAICOS. KEEP DOLPHINS IN THE BLUE!
