It was an ordinary day. Sorting through my email when I came upon a rather interesting topic that I just knew I had to share with you. The email showed a variety of limericks that were fun to read. That's provided you can understand the topic of the limerick and exactly what a limerick may be. The limerick dates back to the 14th century and originated in the Irish town of Limerick. The limerick is a humorous five-line poem with two rhymes. The first, second and fifth lines should rhyme while the third and fourth lines should rhyme. Limericks were made popular in the 19th century by authors such as William Shakespeare and Dante Gabriel Rossetti. Take a look at my limerick which I wrote after thinking about it for about 30 seconds...
I recently came upon some rhymes
that were funny, even sad at times
for they told of my youth
when you always told the truth
for a good limerick was certainly worth a dime.
Corny? Perhaps, but hey...it was my first ever try at writing a limerick. See if you can do any better. Pick out a subject and try to compose a limerick that you can share with your family or friends. Hey, you could even send it to me as a comment below. Perhaps I could post all the limericks at another time for all to read. Limericks could be a lot of fun when you gather for a holiday or special event and need something to liven up the atmosphere. It was another extraordinary day in the life of an ordinary guy. PS - The samples I found follow:
There once was a gal named Sue
ReplyDeletewho did what she was told to do;
She got her two shots,
The nay-sayers were lots.
Will we ever be free of this flu?
