The "Cheap Entertainment" Story
It was an ordinary day. Heading to the used book store to drop off a bag of used books and to see if they might have one that I might be interested in reading. Place has literally thousands of used paperbacks as well as a small section of hardback books. You pay 1/2 the price listed on the cover for the book. When you return them, you get 1/4 the value that the book sold for. Not too bad for entertainment. The woman that usually greets me as I walk in the door is probably my age. Has that "librarian" look to her; tall, thin, short hair, and a pointy chin that you know could cut through cheese. Very seldom smiles, but I try to make her smile whenever I go in. Told her today that any books in the bag I had brought in for credit that weren't acceptable, just throw them out or keep them for herself. A slight smile and a thank you. My mission was to find another book by Andrew Gross who co-authored a few books with James Patterson and who wrote a few on his own. Had just finished one of his and was interested in another. She told me they go out the door as soon as they put them on the shelf. I am not the only one who enjoyed his work. Well, I searched the shelves and choose one by the late Michael Crichton. Have read a few of his books, but at times find them "weird". Read the reviews on the cover and will give it a try. Hey, with my credit and half price, I only paid $1.87 for the book. Really cheap entertainment. It was another extraordinary day in the life of an ordinary guy.
