The "Say It Ain't So, Joe" Story
It was an ordinary day. And, I have to get my two cents worth out of it. Have been following the demise of Penn State beloved football coach JoePa. And, I must say I have no sympathy for him right now! None!! I know that he is what Penn State is about, but that certainly can't be true anymore, can it? Why would Penn State fans, football fans in particular, want a leader, not just a football coach, but a LEADER, who for years knew about the child sex abuse that was occurring among one of his football staff, even though he says he reported it, but continued as if nothing had ever happened. Why did he continue to allow the guy to coach? And then, after the culprit resigned his position, why did JoePa continue to allow him into the building were more and more abuse occurred. How could the University, after hearing a report from a custodian years ago about the abuse, continue to cover up the event as if nothing had happened. Think of all the young boys who have suffered since that time at the hands of Jerry Sandusky. IT DIDN'T HAVE TO HAPPEN!! And, I believe that JoePa knew it! But, FOOTBALL is everything at Penn Sate. Eight boys, or men by this time, have come forward with charges. Do you really believe that there were only eight. My guess is that you can probably double or triple that number, but they are ashamed or embarrassed to come forward. Joe reportedly issued a statement yesterday morning saying that the Board of Directors needn't concern themselves with him, he was going to retire at the end of the season anyway. They have more pressing issues. He knew at the time he was in trouble and wanted to go out on his terms. Didn't happen. And why did the Grand Jury, who opened the case three years ago, wait until after JoePa won his 409th game, and set an all-time major college record, before the case came to light. I always considered Joe as the best coach in any sport, high school, college, pro, or little league. His name has now been tarnished in my mind. I have a young grandson and I can't imagine how upset I would be if something like this would happen to him. My sympathy goes out to all the victims of these needless crimes. Didn't had to happen, you know. If the LEADER of the pack had been more concerned with children being molested under his watch by one of his assistants, and less about winning football games, the victims would have been far fewer. You know that he had to know what was going on. He knew everything, didn't he? It certainly is a sad day in happy valley! There, I got my two cents in! Actually I got my dollar's worth, didn't I!! And, I can only imagine what people must say about me. It was another extraordinary day in the life of an ordinary guy. PS - You know that Penn State is ranked among the top 15 public universities nationally and is considered to be one of America's Public Ivy Universities, which recognizes top public research universities in the United States. They are more than FOOTBALL, you know!
