The "Extraordinary Uses Of Ordinary Items" Story
It was an ordinary day. Found some extraordinary uses of some ordinary items. Naturally Duct Tape has to be on the top of the list. This is a must item to take along with you on vacation. You can repair almost anything with the gray sticky stuff. Matter of fact I saw it is now made in different colors so you can color coordinate. Boogie Boards, kitchen utensils, fronts on air conditioners, shower stalls, ....... you name it and it can break while on vacation, and the duct tape will be able to fix all of that. My granddaughters are using it to decorate just about everything. The new fad for school this year. And if you are in need of something to slice soft bread, butter, cheese or even a birthday cake, try dental floss. Works great. And, I found that I can use a plastic soda bottle cut in half as a funnel when necessary. Then there is the evening salad that, after washing all the lettuce, still is extremely wet. Use your hair dryer to dry the water if you don't want all that extra water as your salad dressing. Also found out that poison ivy can be treated with Baking Soda by placing 3 teaspoons in a teaspoon of water and apply it to the affected area. That, and also rubbing lemon juice on the affected area. Did you know that if you take a few cotton balls, put your favorite cologne or after shave on them and drop them in the vacuum cleaner canister, it will help to deodorize the room you are cleaning. Dampen a few more cotton balls with vanilla and place them in the fridge for a pleasant scent. And the spots in your house where mildew may breed are candidates for a few cotton balls dipped in bleach. Something that my daughter told me to do is after using a kitchen sponge, rinse it, squeegee the water out, put a few drops of lemon juice on it, then pop it in the microwave to kill all the germs and give it a better smell. And, if you have a small cutting board, place it in the microwave after washing to help kill all the germs that may still remain on it. Same thing for your hard brown sugar in that box. Sprinkle a bit of water on the sugar and heat it for 20 seconds in the microwave. Softens it real quick. Finally, my daughter also sent me a note telling me that if you place a wooden spoon over the pan that you are boiling something in, it will not boil over. So she says! It was another extraordinary day in the life of an ordinary guy.
