It was an ordinary day. Reading about another sale of artwork by Aaron and Abner Zook. It was back in March of this year that 18 pieces of artwork by the Zook brothers sold at auction with one of the pieces going for $52,000. The Zook brothers are both deceased, but it seems that there are many followers of their artwork. After seeing how well their artwork sold this past March, more current owners of their artwork have decided to sell the pieces that they had purchased years ago from the Zook brothers. I had heard about the sale back in March and made a visit to the Good & Plenty Restaurant in Bird-In-Hand, Pennsylvania to see many of the pieces that would be for sale, but were at present hanging on the walls of the restaurant. Fantastic work for two young fellows that had very little formal training in the arts. The upcoming sale will have six large Abner Zook prints as well as three large prints from Aaron Zook. There will also be 16 smaller octagonal pictures by Aaron Zook and seven pictures that Aaron made with his son Sam. The pictures will show a variety of scenes of farm work and covered bridges. The largest piece measures 3 feet by 5 feet, while the octagonal pictures by Aaron Zook are 12 inches by 12 inches. The brothers were born in Leacock Township in 1921 and were raised Amish, but both eventually left the church. Many of the paintings show scenes from their childhood. Aaron died in 2003 while his brother died in 2010. After the last sale in March, many people realize the prices that the paintings are bringing and have decided to sell already purchased pieces in hopes of getting much more than they paid for them years ago. In the previous sale, several Aaron Zook pictures sold for $37,000, $27,000 and $26,000. Will prices continue to climb? Only time will tell. The sale will be this coming Friday, starting at 7:00 P.M. at PA Auction Center which is at 1141 Wea Wit St. East Earl behind Town Hall Restaurant. With prices from the previous sale being so high, my guess is the prices will be just as high or perhaps higher at this sale. Both of the following paintings will be included in the next sale. It was another extraordinary day in the life of an ordinary guy.
