It was an ordinary day. Just finished looking at the villa that we will call home in the near future. We had made a decision on a single-level, two bedroom, two full baths and the usual living room, dining room, kitchen, and in this case, a sunroom to keep our cats busy. It has a fireplace in the living room and an outlet for a wall-hung television above the fireplace. Also has a TV hook-up in the master bedroom. And...I will never have to mow the grass, rake leaves, or shovel snow again. My back just can't wait. To prepare to move we have a bunch of financial forms to sign and then begin to pack. That is the part that is overwhelming! We have years and years of collectibles, plenty of photo albums, book shelves of unread books, plants...both real and artificial, a variety of modern as well as antique furniture that will not fit in our new home and junk drawer after junk drawer to go through. Luckily the moving process will go at a very slow pace. If everything goes as planned, we might perhaps be in our new home in 4 to 6 months. But, it is still a royal task for two people in their 70s. Family, both young and old, have already been helping and asking what they can do to help. Carol and I have begun to decide what furniture we will either sell, auction off or discard. We have also decided what books, records, CDs, etc. should get thrown out and which ones should go with us to our new home. We have an old floor model color TV that works great and has a large screen, but it weighs a ton. We have offered it for free to a few people, but have no takers yet. Always can put in it the newspaper and hope someone might want it. Hate to discard it with the trashman. We have two old, worn and extremely comfortable lounge chairs that we have decided to discard and replace with just one since our living space is a bit smaller where we will be moving. Also will be placing our living room furniture in the sunroom. We have plans upon plans upon more plans, but they are exhausting for two old-timers. My wife just found she had close to 50 pair of socks in a dresser drawer. Some will go with us while others will go to Good Will. Any that are tattered will naturally be discarded. I have close to three dozen baseball caps from all the exotic locations we have traveled in the 55 years we have been married. I can't take all of them with me...or can I? The chores never seem to stop. But, we did realize that we don't have to get it all done in a few weeks. We do have a few months!! We just have to rely on our family and friends for help. They all have offered to help and I'm sure they all will be given a chance to help. Looks like a chance for a big Thank You! party after we have our new home complete. Well, I'm not getting much done by sitting in front of my computer and typing. Gotta go for now. It was another extraordinary day in the life of an ordinary guy.
