The "Here We Go Again" Story
It was an ordinary day. No sense crying over "spilled milk", as the saying goes. My "spilled milk" is my latest trip that was scheduled for St. Martin in two days. My back problem has persisted and I will need surgery. Next week! Do I really have to wait for next week? Yep! Doctor only operates on Thursdays and I just missed this Thursday. I gave you the history yesterday of my back problem in a story and Dr. Gastaldo reviewed my options with my wife Carol and I during our appointment this morning. He answered all our questions then Carol wanted to know if I would be ready to travel in 6-8 weeks. No problem! Seems we will miss our trip that is scheduled for 2 days from now to St. Martin, but don't want to miss a trip that is scheduled for late October. My surgery is called Lumbar Laminectomy and will correct my problem. I was given a website to review the procedure. Even given an access code where I must type my name before viewing the half-hour program about the procedure. The program is extremely informative and answered any questions that I may have forgotten to ask the doctor. The evening before and the morning of the surgery I must wash, from the neck down, with an antiseptic/antimicrobial skin cleanser. Have to wear freshly laundered clothes to the hospital. Avoiding germs at all costs. I am anxiously awaiting the day when I will be able to walk again without pain. The "spilled milk" will be rescheduled and I will be able to enjoy walking the beach, swimming in the warm Caribbean sea, and relaxing on the soft white sand in a beach chair with a drink in one hand and a good book in the other. Can hardly wait! It was another extraordinary day in the life of an ordinary guy.
