The "I Only Have An Eye For You: Part 2" Story

It was an ordinary day. Just got another follow-up letter from my cousin telling me how she was feeling and about her adventure last night with an eye patch in place on her left eye. Yesterday I asked her to be a guest blogger for me and write about her eye surgery she had. She was gracious enough to respond with an email which I copied and pasted into my story yesterday. The way it was written made it seem humorous, but I'm sure it didn't feel funny. She has since then sent me an update and I will let her tell the story exactly why the surgery was needed and the subsequent results and reaction to it. The first section is an email from the day following surgery, while the second section is an email from the following day. Take it away, Susan .......

Excision of pterygium (tur-ij-ee-um) on the left eye ..... growth on the conjunctiva of the eye....the thin, filmy membrane that covers the white part of the eye but it was growing onto the colored part of my eye, the cornea. The disease is from being out in the sun too much without proper protection. Like who wore sun glasses when we were growing up? My eye doctor's name is Dr. john SeStafano from Chester County Eye Care in Exton, PA. He used 8 stitches to sew the graft onto my eye .... he counted his stitches today. They dissolve over time but are going to be scratchy as it goes along. I don't have much other pain, just the pulling of the stitches on the eye ...... some drainage at times which is to be expected.I am more tired and nauseated today then yesterday. I looked at my eye today ........ as expected it's very red. He said today when I saw him for my checkup that he was pleasantly surprised ....... said I must be tougher than his other patients ........ I said, no, just younger ........ and he smiled. He had 10 cataract patients after me yesterday he told me on the phone last night ....... said he put me first yesterday on his schedule because he wanted to get me out of the way. Yes, I can see fine out of it, thank goodness. Today my sista and I shopped for patches on the way home and I got one at Walmart. They come in black, black, or black. I chose black. I may embellish it with some rhinestones I have here to make it more feminine and noticeable. Haha! I am contemplating telling Gman I can go out tonight for supper .... maybe to the Bullfrog in Georgetown....I think that would be a good first step with the new patch ..... they have a sign on their door outside No Colors which means NO GANGS ALLOWED so I hope they let me in with a patch on because it sure does look threatening in the mirror. Rrrrrrrrrrr .......!!!!

As a follow up I have sent you this picture ..... self portrait right before leaving for the Bullfrog last night. I found it very interesting to see people's reactions to it. Gman's was first and he said it looked good. He would. Some at the bar avoided eye contact ....
even the one bar maid that knows us ... two men that are regulars moved their bar stools to give me and Gman more room .... guess they thought we needed it .... and the one is a crippled guy that can hardly walk but he's just so nice and looks like the lion from Wizard of Oz .... his name is 'Spec' and I don't know why ..... he went to the bathroom one time and when he came out he said to me ... 'You could never be as ugly as me even with a patch on' and I said ..... 'Oh, you're always cute' and he giggled and then he told me about the time he was working on the STrasburg rail road and he got hot sodder in his eye and had to get that out and then wear a patch. Everyone seems to have a patch story! The owner asked me if he missed the memo for the Halloween party and told me he had to wear a patch one time because he got hit in the eye and other than that patrons pretty much ignored after the first glance but when they glanced at first they all got the same look on their faces like ............ Ohhhhhhhh, don't look. Very interesting stuff for a Thursday night in Georgetown. A mini psych lesson! Tonight Gman says we're going to The Fireside. Whoa! now that's high class ......... I really will have to put some rhinestones on the patch for tonight's lesson!!!! Ciao! Cousin S

Pretty extreme surgery with results that could really impact your life. Susan looks like she has weathered the storm and with the use of humor and her husband Gman, is pulling through. But, she's a relative and that's how we do it in LDub's family. It was another extraordinary day in the life of an ordinary guy. PS - Hey Susan, you ought to wear that patch all the time. I really do love the pirate look on ya .... Rrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr!!!
