The "Quotes and Sayings That May Help Lead You In The Right Direction" Story

It was an ordinary day.  Checking out one of my personal sites that I have been collecting and adding to for quite some time...like years.  My site has a HUGE list of "quotes" and "sayings" for just about any occasion.  If I need a quote or special line or saying,  I will pull up my site and begin a search so as to have the best choice available to me.  Thought the other day that maybe I could share a few "quotes" and "sayings" with you in case you might need a "quote" or "saying" in the future.  Feel free to use what you want...since I have done the same in the past.  I must admit that only one of these quotes or sayings is my own (the final one), but then again, who is good enough to come up with "just the right" saying or quote when needed.  My guess is that you will recognize some of what you are about to read.  It was another extraordinary day in the life of an ordinary guy.

People are capable, at any time in their lives, of doing what they dream of.

Age is no barrier. It’s a limitation you put on your mind.

We always may be what we might have been.

Seldom does an individual enter upon an highly creative effort in any field of endeavor before the age of forty.

If success comes early, it can mess with you. As rough as my early days were, I wouldn’t change five seconds.

The time for action is now. It’s never too late to do something.

I’m very grateful at my stage of the game to have all this happen. It makes me laugh and laugh; it’s ridiculous, because underneath I’m the same person I’ve always been.

There is a fountain of youth: It is your mind, your talents, the creativity you bring to your life and the lives of people you love. When you learn to tap this source, you will truly have defeated age.

It is never too late or too soon. It is when it is supposed to be.

There is nothing better in life than being a late bloomer. I believe that success can happen at any time and at any age.

This is one of my all-time favorites...since I am almost there....All I have done before the age of 70 is not worth bothering with. At 75, I’ll have learned something of the pattern of nature, of animals, of plants, of trees, birds, fish, and insects. When I am 80, you will see real progress.  I am at the end of the quote and my progress should arrive soon!!

By being authentically who you are, you might be a little slower in becoming successful, but you’re going to be slowly gathering people who are your tribe, your kinda folks.

Luckily for me — and anyone who’d have to tolerate my antsy early retirement — our research reveals a deeper paradox that offers true hope: We older folks don’t have to assume we’re has-beens. That’s because creativity itself has no age.

Perhaps I would have preferred to start off at 20 or 30, but I don’t think I would have been anywhere near equipped to know what it takes to be in business.

Forgiveness is a reflection of loving yourself enough to move on.

You only struggle because you're ready to grow but aren't willing to let go.

Forgiveness is just another name for freedom.

Every time you are tempted to react in the same old way, ask if you want to be a prisoner of the past or a pioneer of the future. The past is closed and limited; the future is open and free.

The truth is, unless you let go, unless you forgive yourself, unless you forgive the situation, unless you realize that the situation is over, you cannot move forward.

You can’t go back and make a new start, but you can start right now and make a brand new ending.

A ship in harbor is safe, but that is not what ships are built for.

Take the first step in faith. You don’t have to see the whole staircase, just take the first step.

You have two choices: to control your mind or to let your mind control you.

What we find in life is based on where we put our attention. When we focus on the small worlds our thoughts create, we miss out on the beauty and possibilities we are meant to enjoy.

We are tied to the ocean. And when we go back to the sea, whether it is to sail or to watch, we are going back from whence we came.

To me, the sea is a continual miracle; the fishes that swim, the rocks, the motion of the waves, the ships with men in them. What stranger miracles are there?

The sea, that great library of books one cannot read.

For whatever we lose (like a you or a me) / it’s always ourselves we find in the sea.

The sea, once it casts its spell, holds one in its net of wonder forever.

But more wonderful than the lore of old men and the lore of books is the secret lore of the ocean.

No water, no life. No blue, no green.

The cure for anything is salt water: sweat, tears, or the sea.

Your heart is the size of an ocean. Go find yourself in its hidden depths.

When anxious, uneasy and bad thoughts come, I go to the sea, and the sea drowns them out with its great wide sounds, cleanses me with its noise, and imposes a rhythm upon everything in me that is bewildered and confused.

A wave in the sea, seen in one way, seems to have a distinct identity, an end and a beginning, a birth and a death. Seen in another way, the wave doesn’t really exist, but is just the behavior of water, "empty" of any separate identity, but "full" of water.

I could never stay long enough on the shore; the tang of the untainted, fresh, and free sea air was like a cool, quieting thought, and the shells and pebbles and the seaweed with tiny living creatures attached to it never lost their fascination for me.

In one drop of water are found the secrets of all the endless oceans.

He that will learn to pray, let him go to sea.

Go and make interesting mistakes, make amazing mistakes, make glorious and fantastic mistakes. Break rules. Leave the world more interesting for your being here.

Without experimentation, a willingness to ask questions and try new things, we shall surely become static, repetitive, and moribund.

Sometimes the bravest and most important thing you can do is just show up.

If you want to conquer fear, do not sit home and think about it. Go out and get busy.

[People] make their best work when they’re riding that wave and a little bit uncomfortable. Sell your own myth, but never buy it.

When I let go of what I am, I become what I might be.

Great people do things before they’re ready.

Don’t fear failure so much that you refuse to try new things. The saddest summary of a life contains three descriptions: could have, might have, and should have.

Sometimes the place you are used to is not the place you belong.

And the thing about blooming is, nothing about the process is easy. It requires every part of you to stretch upward, with your roots firmly planted in the ground; and in the sun, and in the rain, and wind, you stand anyway, even against the pull of the soil. And through it all, one day you will see all along you were transforming.

We delight in the beauty of the butterfly, but rarely admit the changes it has gone through to achieve that beauty.

If you cannot find peace within yourself, you will never find it anywhere else.

If there is to be any peace it will come through being, not having.

Ego says, ‘Once everything falls into place, I’ll feel inner peace.’ Spirit says, ‘Find your inner peace and then everything will fall into place.’

You find peace not by rearranging the circumstances of your life, but by realizing who you are at the deepest level.

Breathing in, I calm body and mind. Breathing out, I smile. Dwelling in the present moment I know this is the only moment.

Peace is the result of retraining your mind to process life as it is, rather than as you think it should be.

There are those who give with joy, and that joy is their reward.

Joy is what happens when we allow ourselves to recognize how good things are.

If you carry joy in your heart, you can heal any moment.

Things won are done, joy’s soul lies in the doing.

We cannot cure the world of sorrows, but we can choose to live in joy.

Like the rainbow / after the rain / joy will reveal itself / after sorrow

You cannot protect yourself from sadness without protecting yourself from happiness.

When you’re happy you enjoy the music, but when you’re sad you understand the lyrics.

The good life is not one immune to sadness but one in which suffering contributes to our development.

Isn’t it nice to think that tomorrow is a new day with no mistakes in it yet?

Trying in the wake of rejection is a kind of faith … A tribute to anyone who’s ever chased anything.

There is no innovation and creativity without failure. Period.

What we fear doing most is usually what we most need to do.

Now that you don't have to be perfect, you can be good.

Don’t let the fear of losing be greater than the excitement of winning.

You will never plough a field if you only turn it over in your mind.

Cats never listen. They’re dependable that way; when Rome burned, the emperor’s cats still expected to be fed on time.

A house isn’t a home without the ineffable contentment of a cat with its tail folded about its feet. A cat gives mystery, charm, suggestion.

Cats are people, and the sooner the world accepts that fact, the better off the world will be.

A cat can make you feel well rested when you’re tired or turn a rage into a calm just by sitting on your lap. His very nearness is a healing song.

As anyone who has ever been around a cat for any length of time well knows, cats have enormous patience with the limitations of the human mind.

When I am feeling / low / all I have to do is / watch my cats / and my / courage / returns.

I always eat dessert first, because life is so uncertain.

Without ice cream, there would be darkness and chaos.

For where all love is, the speaking is unnecessary. It is all. It is undying. And it is enough.

Good night, good night! Parting is such sweet sorrow that I shall say good night till it be tomorrow.

Those that truly love have roots that grow towards each other underground, and when all the pretty blossoms have fallen from their branches, they find that they are one tree and not two.

Please do not take life quite so seriously — you surely will never get out of it alive

Serenity now!

You never know how much you really believe anything until its truth or falsehood becomes a matter of life and death to you.

I wrote the books I should have liked to read if only I could have got them. That's always been my reason for writing. People won't write the books I want, so I have to do it for myself.

Some day you will be old enough to start reading fairy tales again.

Old friends are the great blessing of one's latter years — half a word conveys one's meaning.

When we’re together the years fall away. Isn’t that what matters? To have someone who can remember with you? To have someone who remembers how far you’ve come?

The best kind of laughter is laughter born of a shared memory.

A man is not old until regrets take the place of dreams.

Love is the closest thing to laughter and the closest thing to tears. Love is the motive power of everything in the universe that has beauty in it. Love is the reason for everything and the reward of everything.

Better pass boldly into that other world, in the full glory of some passion, than fade and wither dismally with age.

Just when I discovered the meaning of life, they changed it.

Words have no wings, but they can fly a thousand miles.

If you can walk, you can dance, if you can talk, you can sing.

Goodwill toward others is a precious treasure.

You must never feel badly about making mistakes … as long as you take the trouble to learn from them. For you often learn more by being wrong for the right reasons than you do by being right for the wrong reasons.

And...when life is over...we shall surely know!  So be it!
