The "THE WALL" Story
It was an ordinary day. I was searching through the old photos to see if I could come up with another story for my blog. Pickin's are getting slim after 425 stories. That's about 60 more than I had planned on writing when I first started my blog. Most of the stories I have left are those that can't be told on my blog. I first marvel at all the film I bought and had developed and all the dumb things I took photos of over the years. The vacations and well documented events of the family are OK, but the photos of other peoples weddings, old car shows, corvette events, etc. mean nothing to me now. So, in the trash they went. The amount I discarded far outweighed what I kept. Well, as I'm searching and laughing at all the old family pictures, I find a photo of "The Wall" in our 3rd floor bedroom on Janet Ave. When my two boys got old enough to room together and could navigate the steps to the third floor, I redid the large room and made it into a large bedroom, big closet, and bathroom with a shower stall. Added baseboard heating, also. Did all the work myself except for hooking up the water and sewer. The room is the size of our entire house so the boys had a great place to hang out. Even had a divider between their beds which included storage and a big desk. Floors were the original softwood floors which, after a few coats of finish, were beautiful. In the front of the room, on the side of the house facing Janet Ave. was a wall that had a window in it. Must have been 12 feet across. My youngest Tad was really into ice hockey so he decided that he was going to paint the wall with the logos of all the NHL teams. Fine with me. I brought an opaque projector home from school and he spent hours drawing all the logos. Then he used acrylic paints and painted the logos. Turned out great. When we finally moved from Janet Ave., the hardest part of the move for Tad was losing "The Wall". It brought back so many memories to him. Well, I found a photo of "The Wall" as I was searching the photo collection. Called Tad and asked him if he wanted it. He was here the next day to pick it up. Looked at it for the longest time and started telling me about it. "The Hartford Whalers don't exist anymore. Same for the Winnipeg Jets. And, the Quebec Nordiques are now the Colorado Avalanche. And, the Mighty Ducks are now the Anaheim Ducks. They decided to drop the Mighty since other teams made fun of them when they lost all the time." Check out the picture and see how good a job he did with the logos. Ah, the memories!! It was another extraordinary day in the life of an ordinary guy.The
